The collection of work by Ernest Gimson, Ernest and Sidney Barnsley and Peter Waals described in this catalogue was started in 1919, the year of Gimson's death, when his widow presented to Leicester City Museum architectural drawings by Gimson for the new Federal Capital of Australia. Over the next twenty years several important gifts were received from Sydney Gimson and the nucleus of a fine collection was formed. This catalogue includes sections on furniture, chairs, plasterwork, metalwork, other designs and architecture, with an initial section on the history of the group.
